We are celebrating after being named as one of nine developments globally to be recognised for our environmentally friendly and sustainable construction.

We have been awarded the prestigious BREEAM residential award 2017 for being the greenest residential scheme in the world. BREEAM is a global sustainability rating scheme and recognises leading environmentally friendly buildings every year.

This award adds to our burgeoning green credentials. We have also been crowned the ‘sustainable housing scheme of the year’ by the Housing Excellence Awards 2016.

Nigel Rawlings, of Tribe Apartments Limited, who led the project on the ground, said: “We spent over a year honing the environmental construction of Tribe. We went beyond the typical design, construction and refurbishment of the blocks by installing significant energy efficient measures. For example we installed communal biomass boilers, that significantly to reduce carbon emissions and minimise energy bills for residents. Over its lifetime, the project will save approximately 28,000 tonnes of carbon.”

Tribe’s regeneration began four years ago and was completed in 2015. The three former council blocks had been empty for over 15 years. The transformation was funded in part by a £7.9m Build To Rent loan from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the first to be awarded in the UK. Build to Rent offers finance for private rent schemes that meet the need for good quality, large-scale developments in the private rent sector. Equity was secured through institutional investments managed by Cabot Square Capital.

Tribe adds to the continued regeneration of New Islington, following significant public and private investment in the area and development of new homes, a health centre, a free school and the New Islington Marina.
